A few words on the dance:
Samba de Gafieira, originally from Rio de Janeiro, is danced with partners on Brazilian rhythms such as Samba, Choro, Bossa Nova, MPB. It borrowed its name from the “Gafieiras”, or places where couples practiced the popular Brazilian folkdances of the early 20th century. Mixing Afro-Brazilian and European influences, this dance leaves room for musical interpretation. It consists of codified steps, alternating tempo and contra-tempo. The leader constantly seeks to surprise his partner while still maintaining harmony between them.

A few words on the teachers:
Isaac has worked with famous teachers and taught in their schools in Rio de Janeiro, such as Sheila & Chocolate, Carlos Bolacha and Carlinhos de Jesus. He teaches different dances (Samba de gafieira, Samba no pé, Bolero & Forro) and for all age groups. For instance, he was a professor at the school of “Mangueira” for the “Velha Guarda”. He choreographed and danced in various shows, concerts and even for the DVD of Alcione. He featured in the carnival in the “comissão de frente” of famous samba schools such as Salgueiro, Portela and São Clemente.

Isaac Douglas & Carina Oliveira have been dancing Samba de Gafieira since they were 12 years old (2001). In 2005, they met through mutual artistic projects in dance companies, shows and presentations. Their longstanding partnership was officialized in 2015 when they toured in Europe and Japan to teach their specialty: Samba de Gafieira. They took part in dance congresses—both in Brazil and the rest of the world. In Rio de Janeiro, they organize dance classes and parties of Samba de Gafieira, including rythms such as Forro and Bolero, located mainly in the Western part of Rio.
