Samanta Schweblin at the International Literature Festival Utrecht

The Argentinian-born Samanta Schweblin (1978) won several prizes for her short stories. In 2010 literary magazine Granta named her one of the most promising Spanish language novella writers under 35. Five years later her manuscript was chosen from 856 applications and crowned with the ‘Premio Narrativa Breve Ribera del Duero 2015’. This year she’s on the Man Booker International Prize longlist with her novel Fever Dream. The Dutch translation comes from Mia Buursma.

About Fever Dream
Schweblin’s shocking first novel, titled Fever Dream, was published in Dutch in early 2016 with Atlas Contact publishers. “This is more than great literature, this is the flash of a genius.” wrote thriller critic Lukas de Vos in Knack. The story contains a confusing dialogue between two excessively loving mothers Carla and Amanda. The fate of both women seems to be connected in a mysterious way. Fever Dream is a hypnotising story. Like a nightmare that unfolds creepingly.

Samanta Schweblin (1978, Buenos Aires) studied film studies and now lives in Berlin. Schweblin is a big fan of the American director David Lynch and especially the television series Twin Peaks. The intense feeling that something strange can happen is something she wants to transfer to her readers. She fell in love with literature through the work of Mexican writer Juan Rulfo, Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez and Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa.
