A project by visual artist Aimée Zito Lema in cooperation with cultural anthropologist Nahuel Blaton

Migration
Visual artist Aimée Zito Lema and cultural anthropologist Nahuel Blaton are both children of Argentinean political refugees. In the 1940’s, members of their families migrated from the Netherlands to Argentina. During the 1970’s, the political circumstances of the military dictatorship, forced them to migrate back to Europe.
This given is at the heart of the special installation ‘Otros Lugares/ Other Places’, featuring Dutch actress Sarah Eweg and the Argentinean actress Cristina Banegas.

Art reseach
The installation is the result of art research into the influence of migration and exile on individuals and the impact on next generations.
The makers interviewed people who were involved in this process, and visited archives and historical locations in the Netherlands and Argentina. In Argentina they filmed in the former military college ESMA. During the dictatorship this institution served as an illegal detention camp. The Argentinean Nobel prize winner Adolfo Pérez Esquivel was interviewed about dictatorship, violence and exile.
Next to the film, a publication and photos will be presented.

‘Otros Lugares / Other Places’ is linked to the emigration history of Lloyd Hotel. Between 1921 and 1938 this was the last stop of emigrants who were brought to South America by the Royal Dutch Lloyd shipping company.
